Suggestions for an e-Neighbourhood at
Clash, more underground and multi-storey car parks adjacent to
the Town Centre, the revision of the casual trading byelaws in
The Square, the creation of new, smaller taxi ranks around the
Town Centre, the protection of green areas, and the provision of
additional accommodation for the elderly in the town centre were
among the proposals to come forward at the public meeting (Nov
28) hosted by Tralee Town Council in relation to the new Town
Development Plan.
Many of the attendees insisted
that
the construction of eastern ring road should be the major
priority of the Town Council and that its delay was hindering
the development of the town. Tralee Town Manager Michael McMahon
said that the revised route of the new road had just been
published and had been submitted by Kerry County Council to the
National Roads Authority for its approval. Provided all the
necessary approvals were forthcoming and funding allocated work
on the road could commence, he said, in 2009 and be completed in
2011.
Earlier Town Planner Ms. Victoria
McCarthy made a very informative presentation on the process
involved in the preparation and adoption of the new Town Plan.
Mayor Miriam McGillicuddy and Town Clerk Michael Scannell
stressed that while there were many influences on the plan from
EU and National policies that had to be taken on board it was
the public’s views on how the town should develop that were most
important.
Over 250 people attended
Wednesday’s Information Day and Meeting on the Town Plan hosted
by Tralee Town Council at the Brandon Hotel. The special
exhibition and AV presentation which charts the development of
Tralee and highlights the issues for the future will re-open in
the Kerry County Library, Moyderwell this weekend. Members of
the public have until Wednesday, December 19th to make
submissions to the new Town Plan.
