Meeting on “Draft” Town
Development Plan

Tralee Town Council hosted an open information day and public
meeting in the Brandon Conference Centre on July 21 last on the
Tralee Town Development Plan 2009-2015 which is now at the
“Draft” stage. An extensive audio-visual display was mounted and
Council Officials were on hand during the day to answer queries
and take submissions from members of the public. The event
marked a further stage in the preparation of the final document
which will be the blueprint for the development of the town over
the next seven years.
The Mayor of Tralee, Cllr Ted
Fitzgerald welcomed members of the public to the evening
meeting. He said that this was the “people’s plan”, he thanked
them for their submissions to date and asked them to read the
draft document carefully and to make whatever additional
observations and submissions they wished in writing to the
Planning Department before September 11th.
Town Planner, Ms. Victoria
McCarthy outlined the guiding principles of the new Town Plan,
the hierarchy of national and regional plans that had to be
taken into consideration in the preparation of the plan. She
then went through each chapter in the plan summarising the most
pertinent policy items. She welcomed the public participation
that followed the publication of the Issues Document last year
and said that it captured the public imagination.
This was followed by a series of
round table discussions on each chapter heading which were
chaired by members of the public. Points made during the table
discussions meeting were reported back to the full meeting and
recorded for consideration by planners.
Michael Scannell, Town Clerk, in
his concluding remarks thanked all those groups and individuals
who had made submissions to date and asked others who still
wished to do so to forward them in writing to the Planning
Department, Tralee Town Hall or by email to
townplan@traleetc .ie
marked “Review of Tralee Development Plan”, on or before
Thursday 11th September 2008.
