Mayor
Presents Tidy Tralee Awards

Mayor Norma Foley (Oct 10) has
presented the prizes for the 2006 Tidy Tralee Together Estates
and Garden Competition at the Brandon Conference Centre. The
category winners were Manor Village (Large Estates), Killeen
Heights (Medium Estates) and Ballinorig Estate & Close (Small
Estates). The winner of the best overall residential garden
award was Mrs. Irene Foley, of 55, Knockmoyle Estate. The Mayor
thanked all twenty one winners for their civic spirit and
contribution to the Tralee Tidy Towns effort. The Mayor paid
tribute to the Tidy Tralee Committee chaired by Jimmy O’Donnell
which had organised the competition. Special presentations were
made to Tralee Litter Warden Brendan Murphy and Tom Redmond,
caretaker of St. Anne’s Bungalows.
Since 2002 Tralee has increased
its Tidy Towns mark by 10% year-on-year, she said. The formation
of the Towards a Better Tralee Committee in 2003 was an
important milestone. This Committee had brought together the
Councils, FÁS, statutory bodies, local business interests and
the community groups represented by Tidy Tralee. The Town
Council was playing its part with a multi-million euro
investment in the Town Centre, Town Park and projects like the
new fountain at Ballyard Roundabout and the development of
smaller parks at Ballymullen and Castlemorris.
The presentation ceremony was
sponsored by Garveys SuperValu who were represented at the
function by John Quinn.
