Tralee Steps Up Tidy
Towns Effort

Winn
ing
a bronze medal in 2006 and silver medal last year, Tralee has
stepped up its Tidy Towns effort by not one but two gears in
2008 according to chairman, Cllr. Johnnie Wall. Cllr. Wall was
speaking at the launch of the Business Flower box Initiative
with Tralee Chamber President Mr. James Clifford. A feature of
the top performing towns in the national competition is the
profusion of flowers, particularly in the Town Centre. Tralee
wants to enter the prestigious club of gold medal winners
and
is going all-out to do so. Over 100 local business are
participating in the scheme, double the number originally
anticipated, according to Mr. Clifford. The business community
want to play their part with the others sections of the
community in assisting the Tidy Towns effort and there are also
positive economic benefits for having a beautiful and attractive
town. Meetings took place between Council officials, Towards a
Better Tralee representatives and business on a street-by-street
basis over several months and the initiative is the first fruits
of these. The baskets have been prepared and erected by
Ballyseedy Garden Centre and are watered by the Tidy Towns
Group.
