Tralee
Wins Bronze Medal in Tidy Towns

Mayor Norma Foley and Councillors have welcomed Tralee’s
improved performance in the National Tidy Towns Competition,
winning a Bronze Medal in the large towns category. Tralee
increased its marks by a massive 22 points to 255 which,
according to the Mayor, is a tribute to the hard work of the
Towards a Better Tralee (TABT) Committee, the various
organisations it represents, Tidy Tralee and the council’s
outdoor staff.
While the full details of the Tralee Report are awaited it is
believed that the new fountain at the Ballyard roundabout, the
regeneration of The Square, the placing of banners and flower
baskets in The Mall, Féile na mBláth Garden Festival, and the
efforts of community groups and FAS CE Scheme had contributed to
the success. Cllr. Johnnie Wall, who chairs Towards a Better
Tralee, said that the town was on track to compete at the
highest level in competition - a goal it had set itself three
years ago.
Since 2002 Tralee has increased its mark by 50 in the
competition and has now passed the 250 point watershed. Earlier
this year Tralee was deemed “letter free” to European norms in
the National IBAL survey and entered the top ten of Irish towns
in the league for the first time.
