Green Light for River Lee Walk

Part 8 Planning Approval has been
given by Tralee Town Council (Oct 2nd) for the proposed river
bank walk along the River Lee from Ballyard to Ballymullen. The
1.8km walkway will run along an embankment on the northern side
of the river for most of its route and on an elevated boardwalk
where the route traverses the River Lee floodplain.
Mr.
Michael McMahon, Tralee Town Manager, had reported to the
Council that the observations on the proposed walkway by
statutory bodies and private groups had been very positive and a
number of groups had offered assistance. The river walk has been
a long term objective of Tralee Town Council and a key element
of the Tralee Lee Valley Masterplan (2001) which covers the area
extending from Ballymullen to Blennerville, including the old
Dingle Road landfill. The proposed walkway will eventually link
up with the Ballyseedy Woodland walk.

The Council will now
seek funding for the project and hopes to commence work during
2007.
