The Munster Pipe Band Competition on Sunday
June 19 was a fitting finale of Féile na mBláth Garden Festival.
Bands from Cork, Limerick, Waterford and Kerry participated in
the competition which was switched from the Town Centre to the
Kerry Marquee in the park because of the threatening weather. In
the event the sun shone and the strains of the pipes and drums
could be heard across the 30 acre park and beyond.

The
overall winners were the Newcastlewest Pipe Band from County
Limerick with Tralee Pipe and Drums a close second. The
O’Driscoll Shield was won by Bandon Pipe Band with five year old
Ava Lane leading the parade of massed bands down Denny Street.
Once again large crowds attended the event which resulted in a
bumper day for the traders and craftspeople set up in the park.
Long after the event a lone piper from Cork celebrated his joy
at winning a prize with a solo march through the Square.
