Public
Consultation on Lee Valley Park

Tralee Town Council has begun the
Part 8 Planning process for the next phase of the Lee Valley
Park – the construction of the activity and nature zones on a 15
acre site at Ballyard. The Park part of the Lee Valley
Masterplan approved by the Council back in 2001 and is being
implemented in stages according to Town Clerk, Michael Scannell.
The
Council now own virtually all the land between Tralee and
Blennerville, including the old landfill site, and much of this
is designated a special area of conservation. The new park is
outside the conservation zone but will be very complementary to
it according to the town clerk. The timing of its implementation
depends on grant support becoming available through the National
Development Plan.

The proposed park includes a water activity area with artificial
lake, walks, cycle way and childrens' play area. Adjoining it to
the west of the steam railway is the nature zone with wildlife
habitats, bird hides and viewing tower. An eco-friendly visitor
services centre overlooks the park. People have until
Wednesday, April 2nd to give their views in writing on the
development.
