Tralee is participating in the nationwide Pobal-sponsored
programme to rid our communities of unsightly graffiti. The
Dublin based family company, Graffiti Solutions, visited Tralee
just before Christmas to tackle some 50 sites around the town.
The initial focus was the Rapid areas of Mitchell’s Crescent and
Spa Road and the work was extended to the remainder of the
town. Some high profile locations like Denny Lane, Courthouse
Lane, Green Lane and Market Place in the town centre received
special treatment. Much of the graffiti was embedded and there
from the 1990s but this did not deter the Doyle family of Derek
Jnr, Derek Snr and Stephen who have tackled public and private
sector projects right across the country.
The
national programme, co-ordinated by Pobal, is funded by the
Departments of Justice, Environment and Community Affairs. The
Tralee project was planned by Partnership Trá Lí and Tralee Town
Council. The project was welcomed by local business and
community leaders. Cllr. Johnnie Wall, Chairman of Towards a
Better Tralee and a member of Partnership Trá Lí said that
graffiti removal was high on the Tralee Tidy Towns Committee’s
“To Do” list and was completed 6 months ahead of programme. He
thanked Pobal, Kerry Community & Enterprise Department, staff of
Tralee Town Council and all those associated with the project at local
level.
