Tralee (Pop. 2006: 22,714) is the capital town of County Kerry and Ireland’s 7^th largest town. It is a bustling shopping, tourism, commercial, educational, retail, industrial and services centre, the seat of local government, and a regional transport hub.  It is administered by Tralee Town Council.

Tralee has all the facilities of a county capital: excellent shopping both in the Town Centre and in the Manor West Retail Park, historic buildings, sporting facilities and splendid open spaces including the centrally located Tralee Town Park with its award winning Rose Garden and Garden of the Senses.  Tralee boasts a range of all-weather visitor attractions unmatched in any Irish regional town including the Aqua Dome Waterworld, Siamsa Tíre – the National Folk Theatre of Ireland, Kerry County Museum - Ireland’s most visited regional museum., and the historic Blennerville Windmill and Steam Railway and recently re-opened Tralee Ship Canal.  Tralee has an 8-Screen Omniplex Cinema, over 1,000 registered hotel bedrooms, a four star caravan and camping park and top class self-catering and hostel facilities. 

 Tralee is home to the world-famous Rose of Tralee International Festival (mid August) and an expanding number of weekend festivals including Pageant Kerry (St. Patrick’s Weekend in March), Samhlaíocht Chiarraí Easter Arts Festival,  Tralee Garden Festival / Féile na mBláth (mid June)  and the Kerry Film Festival (October).

Tralee has two fully serviced industrial estates at Clash and Monavalley and is home to Kerry Technology Park adjoining ITTralee  at Dromtacker.

There is a wide selection of quality housing available in Tralee. In addition within the urban boundary of Tralee there is approximately 800 acres of development land which is serviced or capable of being serviced and brought into the housing market. The town does not suffer from the severe pressures and acute shortage of accommodation being experienced in the east coast of Ireland.

Health Services ...

Tralee has a well developed public and private health service. Kerry General Hospital, an acute hospital with 377 beds and offering full in-patient and out-patient services, is located in the town. There is a well developed and much expanded private hospital service available at the Bons Secours Hospital in Strand Street. A  Community Nursing (respite and long-term care) Unit is also available.

Tralee’s educational facilities range from pre-school nurseries to the 3^rd level Institute of Technology. IT Tralee offers programmes ranging from certificate through to honours degree and post-graduate Masters and Doctoral level.  Tralee FÁS Training Centre offers full-time and part-time FETAC programmes to trainees from County Kerry and beyond.

FÁS - the Industrial Training and Recruitment Authority, has an advanced Training Centre at Monavalley, Tralee offering a full range of FÁS services to the greater Kerry area.
