Tralee was among the Tidy Towns
winners presented with their awards at a special function hosted
by Fáilte Ireland at the Killarney Plaza Hotel on Friday,
November 24th last. The presentations were made by Mr. Batt
O’Keeffe, Minister of State at the Department of the
Environment, Heritage and Local Government who praised the
recipients for their civic spirit, leadership and dedication.
The Minister encouraged local authorities, business and
community groups to come together to devise a co-ordinated
strategy to improve their local areas. This formula has worked
well in Tralee with the town making dramatic progress up the
Tidy Towns table in recent years. The Tralee Award – a bronze
medal in National Large Towns Category – was accepted by Mary
O’Brien on behalf of the Towards a Better Tralee Committee. Mary
was accompanied by Tralee Town Council’s John Griffin and Litter
Warden Brendan Murphy.
