In what promises to be a valuable addition to the knowledge of the history of Tralee, a new book entitled The History of Tralee, Its Charter and Governance by Tralee historian Gerald O’Carroll will be officially launched in the Brandon Hotel this Tuesday, October 20th by Dr. Angus Mitchell, of the University of Limerick. The present book follows on the success of Gerald’s earlier work “The Life and Career of Judge Robert Day (1746-1845), published in 2004. For this work he has gained access to a number of sources previously unavailable including the Denny Family archive. Original portrait images from governing families, including the Dennys, are included, in addition to a unique watercolour of Tralee Castle and the complete list of all of Tralee’s MPs from the Charter (Tralee retained its MP to 1885). The Fitzgerald and Denny families have dominated the history of Tralee from its foundation and Sir Anthony Denny, who is due to attend the book launch, is a descendant of both. The new book retails at €20 and is available from local bookshops.
