Tarmacing footpaths on October 30th.
Tralee Town Council is continuing its improvement works to the
Town Park with the renewal and widening of the footpath network.
The past twelve months have seen
the completion of the new wrought iron railing along Denny
Street, the installation of the new children's playground,
construction of the tranquillity fountain and commencement of work on
a new
Community Garden on the site of the old playground. It's
all part of the ambitious 5 year improvement plan which is now
in its 3rd year.
The
35 acre park was formerly part of the private Denny Demesne and
was purchased by the Council in 1922 and opened to the public
shortly afterwards.
2009 marks the 20th anniversary of the Rose Garden and 30th
Anniversary of Páirc an Phiarsaigh. The park hosts the
annual Féile na mBláth Garden Festival each June and is the most
visited attraction in Tralee. The National Tidy Towns have
adjudged it to be among the finest public gardens on the Island
of Ireland, a tribute to the Council's Environment team
under Engineer John Sheehan, Foremen Chris Molloy and Martin
Stephenson, and head
gardener Brendan Enright and their staff.
The
Town Council is committed to having the park look its very best
for the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Rose of Tralee
Festival next year.
