Tralee’s 4-in-a-Row in Tidy Towns

Tralee has secured a silver medal for the 4th year in succession in the National Tidy Towns Competition. The town once again improved its mark - by 3 to 283 in 2010, bringing it ever closer to the gold medal award in the Large Urban Area Category.
Cllr. Johnnie Wall, Chairman of the Towards a Better Tralee Committee, praised the efforts of all those involved in Tidy Towns. “Few appreciate the amount of effort involved in bringing Tralee to this point. We scored just 203 marks in 2000 and within ten years we’re at 283. This has come about as a result of a long and sustained effort by the Committee working in partnership with the Councils, FAS, Tidy Tralee and other voluntary and community groups.
“It is great to see community groups like Manor Village and Cloonbeg being singled out for praise, he said, as were the staff of the Town Park, Dr. Noel Mulligan of IT Tralee for his proposals in relation to the Cloonbeg Wetlands and Tralee Town Council for the new Christie Hennessy and Rose of Tralee sculptures. The work of Mary O’Brien and her evening litter patrols on Tuesday and Thursday nights, made a major contribution in achieving the extra marks” according to Cllr. Wall.
The adjudicators report generally makes pleasant reading for Tralee with the town scoring well in most categories especially the Built Environment, Landscaping and Wildlife and Natural Amenities. There was praise for Manor West Retail Park, the community garden at Tobar Naofa on Dean’s Lane, the Rose Garden, Pikeman Flowerbed and the Ballyard Fountain.
