Rose Memorial Arrives in Tralee

What is set to become one of Ireland’s best known and most photographed sculptures has arrived in Tralee and was officially unveiled by Deputy Mayor of Tralee Cllr. Mairead Fernane on Monday August 24th. The Rose of Tralee by renowned Irish sculptor Jeanne Rynhart will commemorate the original Rose of Tralee, Mary O’Connor, and her loved one and composer of the famous ballad, William Pembroke Mulchinock. It is located in the award winning Rose Garden of Tralee Town Park.  “The idea was conceived in Tralee, modelled in the Rynhart Studio in County Cork and cast in the Connolly Bronze Foundry in County Clare”, according to Tralee Development Officer John Griffin. It is mounted on a limestone plinth from Killenaule, County Tipperary.  The sculpture depicts Mary being presented with a rose by William.  The sculpture is part of the Tralee Town Council contribution to the Golden Jubilee Festival celebrations.
