The first phase of the ambitious
Mitchel's Regeneration Scheme at Dean's Lane came a step closer
this week with the commissioning of the state-of-the-art Herz
solid fuel central heating and hot water system. Engineer Spies Walter of Herz
travelled from Seberksdorf in Austria to supervise the
installation of the twin 500KW boilers and control. He was
assisted by Pawel Stefaniak of Filtrex Boiler Systems, the
Dublin-based Irish boiler specialists, and
Seamus Noonan of Stephen Culliney, Heating & Plumbing, Ennis.
Clerk of Works John Casey of Tralee Town Council was on hand to
view the testing of the equipment.
The scheme at Dean's Lane is due for completion in mid
November with the handover of the 42 units for the elderly
to Tralee Town Council. The €8.5m scheme is
designed by the National Building Agency, built by Contractor M.
Fitzgibbon Ltd from Ennis and funded by the Department of the
Environment, Heritage & Local Government under the National
Development Plan. The project is a key objective of the Mitchel's Regeneration Team - a partnership between the local
authority, residents' groups and state and voluntary bodies.
The Dean's Lane scheme incorporates a number of eco and energy
saving features and will be the first woodchip district heating
scheme in Ireland utilising locally produced fuel, according to
Senior Executive Engineer, Tim McSwiney.
